Can you believe there are only fifteen more days until 2020? Or, if we start the year when the energy changes, forty days until the Chinese New Year on January 25, The Year of the Rat! As forty is a significant number of creating change, if today or tomorrow we start contemplating what we want to accomplish in the New Year and honor our thoughts, prayers or meditations about that every day in some way, on the fortieth day, January 25, we’ve accomplished a jump start on a year of incredible enlightenment.

2019 has gone slow or fast, depending on the week or month, inconsistent with the number of days within each, and in unexpected ways. It’s put me in kind of a time warp. August and September felt like three months long each, November went by in a blink and December is going too fast. I’m already thinking in 2020 terms, writing the date as 2020 and saying “2020” instead of “2019”. No matter what challenges the new year brings, I’m really looking forward to it.

Did you feel the energy shift after the Full Moon last Wednesday/Thursday? In case we didn’t realize, it was the last Full Moon of the decade (which means the end of the last decade in the Piscean Age – from now on, it’s Aquarian Age energy only). It also happened in the twelfth hour on the twelfth day of the twelfth month in a twelve year (2+0+1+9 = 12). Twelve is a master number that means completion. And it certainly did complete a lot of karma for us. On Thursday, many of us felt lighter and easier as the Full Moon released a lot of old barriers and stuck rhythms, giving us a clearer energy path for the new decade and an ability to handle change with adaptability and grace.

As we move into 2020, we will come to understand the difference the new beginnings this first Aquarian Age decade brings. Not just because it is, as mentioned, the Year of the Rat in Chinese astrology, which is the beginning of their zodiacal wheel. A lot of unexpected newness comes with this year, especially in the way we think. The Full Moon released our visceral connection to Piscean Age thinking-in-a-box, giving us an unobstructed option to embrace everything in the multi-dimensional thinking the Aquarian Age offers. No matter how much work we have done in harmonizing with the Aquarian Age so far, we’ll find it will now be a lot easier and more fulfilling. This is going to be a whole new alignment (or out-of-alignment) with the Aquarian Age – difficult for some but glorious for most.

For those of us already in the New Age vibe, or working on getting there, 2020 is going to be a fast year. Those in the vibe will have a hard time only when we aren’t true to ourselves or when dealing with those who are fighting the growth the new energy brings (and taking their frustration and fear out on others).

More on 2020 and the Year of the Rat over the next several weeks with a quick note first: all planetary events: New and Full Moons, Solstices and Equinoxes, retrogrades and the movement of the planets will affect us more deeply than they ever have. These events can throw us off or show us a better balance within. If we’re ready for them, and don’t get lost or resentful by how disconnected they can temporarily make us feel, we allow ourselves to innately harmonize with the energy as it changes around us. So make a note on New Year calendars and be prepared.

Meanwhile for those who celebrate the Old Ways:

This coming Saturday, December 21 we enjoy the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. From then on, we cycle toward the light of Spring. My coven in Los Angeles always had an exceptional Yule festival/ritual. We held it outside around the fire pit in my backyard even when some complained of the cold. The fire always gave us just enough warmth. We exchanged re-gifts and stories of gratitude, and always had a mountain of food and goodies. And some pretty potent Wassail! And we celebrated – and felt the energy of – the birth of the Young God, bringing hope into the depth of dark Winter.

Wishing all you Witches and Pagans out there excellent Circles, Rituals, and Celebrations!

A Winter Solstice Blessing

May you find peace in the promise of the solstice night,

That each day forward is blessed with more light.

That the cycle of Nature, unbroken and true,

Brings faith to your soul and well-being to you.

Rejoice in the darkness, in the silence find rest,

And may the days that follow be abundantly blessed.

Blessed Be!

I offer this with love and gratitude…
