Every new year we hope for a fresh start to lift us up after difficulties of the year before. In the past five years, the hope we experienced with that new beginning seemed to fade as we came up against hard karmic lessons and paybacks that never seemed to end. So the “new” in New Year hasn’t really brought anything that seemed different or uplifting. And 2014 was probably the most difficult year we’ve experienced in a long, long time.

Welcome to 2015, putting the “new” back in Happy New Year!

This year brings a lightness of energy and an ability to accomplish what has seemed fraught with obstacles, bogged down, foggy or impossible to get done. However, January is always that pause between the end of the old and the beginning of the new. It brings a time for reassessment not just of where we’ve been and where we want to go, but of our inner blocks or realizations that have either gotten in our way or led us through dark times.

Many have felt the energy shift already as we got into this year. We become more aware of it as it physically manifests in stages over the next month, culminating in the Chinese New Year on February 19. Then we get into the Year of the Wood Sheep/Goat (although we will be feeling the strength of the new “everything is possible” energy as early as February 3).

Right now, we’re starting off with a bang. On January 20/21 (depending on your time zone), we begin our adjustment to the lighter, brighter energy of 2015 with three events.

First, we move into the sign of Aquarius. This is significant in getting us out of our forced focus on the past and into the feeling that anything is possible. We will probably still be a little gun-shy in giving in to that feeling because we’ve experienced hope every year around this time and been slapped with reality as each year’s lessons got harder and harder.

Aquarius brings us out of our self-imposed exile of the last five years – while we were focusing on our inner work – into a time of wanting to be with others, connecting with new like-minded people and groups. We will also desire to be involved in larger groups like volunteer organizations and government – both of which need the help of those who have been inactive or silent while focusing on their own spiritual growth. People who are “graduating” beyond these self lessons will be a great influence on the lost and wayward. Especially watch how that influence affects the self-indulgent big-wigs in Washington who experience a great energetic comeuppance this year (more on that in the next newsletter)

Our second event is the New Moon, the first of six “Super Moons” this year (meaning the Moon is closer to the Earth, causing it’s influence to affect us all the more). Not only does this energy help clear up the left-over negativity of the last five years like a breath of fresh air, it allows us to bring what was positive from the past into the present to help us move into the future. This can manifest itself as an old friend from this lifetime or past lifetimes coming back, or an idea or project resurfacing which was stopped in some way and is now possible.

Basically, we are catching up with our expanding consciousness that has been learning and adapting exponentially as the Aquarian Age energy has pushed us to near the breaking point.

There is a song, The Age of Aquarius, from the 60’s musical, Hair. I’m sure you’ve heard it or at least heard of it. Some of the lyrics are very telling and significant in how this year changes everything for us as we adapt to new vibrations. Here’s an excerpt:

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind’s true liberation
Aquarius! Aquarius!

While we’ve been in the Age of Aquarius since December 21, 2012, we’ve been dealing more with the shift from one way of thinking into another. This new way of thinking is so completely foreign, it will take many, many more years for us to truly “get it”. But in this last two-years-and-a-month, a lot of people have gotten a good handle on it. So the time for single-minded self-evaluating and adapting now becomes a time of expansion and putting-into-practice.

Moving into the sign of Aquarius and the New Super Moon bring a lighter energy that helps us manifest the desires we haven’t been able to manifest in the last five years. However, just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, we come to our third event of the day: Mercury goes retrograde.

Mercury has three retrograde periods this year, the first starting on January 20/21 and lasting until February 11 (going direct just in time to avoid miscommunication on Valentine’s Day). The other retrogrades are from May 18 to June 11, and from September 17 to October 9.

While Mercury retrograde does interfere with best laid plans and seems to stop us in our tracks, this one is serving a higher purpose. The super-positive, everything-is-possible energy we’re getting into can make us want to move too fast just because of the sense of freedom. Moving forward too fast can make us forget all we learned in the last several years. So while being in the sign of Aquarius with a powerful New Moon bringing us the feeling of hope, we still need to take things in steps. Mercury retrograde makes us be very clear on what we want to accomplish before we can actually accomplish it.

So while we get used to a new sense of hope and possibility, reconnect with friends, find like-minded people and groups, put into practice our new way of looking at and understanding this Aquarian vibration, we do it in the safe space of planning before putting into effect. We may feel like chomping at the bit between now and February 19 and want to move RIGHT NOW, but please take advantage of just being in this new hopeful space and find your rhythm in it.

There are three main themes in 2015, details of which I’ll explain in another newsletter (because they deserve their own space). One of them is finding our own rhythm in the new possibilities of 2015 without influence from what has been, and still is, “expected” of us. The feeling of freedom and possibility this year is just the tip of the iceberg of what the Age of Aquarius offers. The better we find how we individually fit into it, the more opportunities are available. And the more we help others who are still lost and the Earth who is our support, comfort and teacher on this journey.

With love and gratitude..
